Yawn.....

L
ooks to me that the Devils have not yet received the memo...the "New NHL" has yet to catch on in the swamp. The Devils continue to play, their trademark trap, clog the neutral zone, clutch and grab hockey, and they play it well. The Devils played rope a dope with the Habs for 45 minutes last night, then after lulling the Habs to sleep, they tied the game up late in the 3rd....I could go on a rant about the colossal brainfart that golden boy Souray made with 11 seconds left in o.t., but screw it..the Devils played their game, and regardless of the changes the NHL has made to make the game more open, more exciting, and higher scoring, stifling defence wins 9 times out of 10. Too bad for the Devils that playing boring, yet winning hockey, does not put butts in the seats..there were what a 106 people in the crowd last night...pathetic.

With regard to tonight's game, the Isles let a great home-grown boy get away in Chris Higgins... You have to love this guy... AND, he's not the only LIer in Montreal... Amazing how inept Mike Milbury has been... Maybe the Long Island boys distributed tix to friends and family, so the Nassau Mausoleum will eclipse their pathetic 8,000 average...

1) We can't blame Islander fans from not showing up. Regardless of their decent start to the season, if we were an Islander fan, we'd want to see more than that to return after getting screwed over for over a decade.
2) Added to that from what we saw when we visited there it has to be the worst arena in the league. 2 bathrooms for everyone? No thanks!
3) The Devils fan situation is far different. They are one of the best run organizations. Have won 3 Cups in the last 10-12 years, yet they can't get 10,000 fans to even show up.
4) The arena isn't a palace, but its hardly run down or hard to get to. So we believe they have No excuse to be drawing poorly. If there ever is a team that should be moved or contracted, sadly its New Jersey

I agree that the islanders have been grossly mismanaged for the last decade or so...and their rink on the island is a crap hole...all that said the islanders will always have a special place in my heart...bossy, trotz, potvin, gilles, smith, goring, nystrom, 4 consecutive cups..the history of the islanders speaks for itself...i always cheer for the islanders (except against my habbies)....the devils are an enigma, they have one of the greatest goalies in hockey history, they have won 3 cups in the last 11 years, they are probably the most creatively run teams in the nhl (lou is a freakin genius)...all that said, i am not sure how this team stays afloat, when lou spends to the max, and nobody comes to see them play.
