Habs Shut Down The Kid

T
he Kid came to the Mtl riding a streak of 10 points in his previous 2 games, the Pens themselves were on a 4 game winning streak. Oh well, like they say all good things must come to an end. Sidney Crosby did pick up an assist in the 1st period, but the Habbies kept the NHL's leading scorer at bay most of the night, and when it was all said and done, came away with an impressive 6-3 victory. The Habs were flat in the 1st, the Pens grossly out shot them 17-3, and the Pens held a 2-1 lead over les boys after 1 period...Carbo must have said all the right things in the 1st intermission, because from the start of the 2nd period on, it was all Habs. Funny, this game was hyped to death, the prodigal son's return.... the thing is Sid and his Pens looked tired, they had played 4 games in 6 nights, we were not blessed with Sid at his best, too bad because when this Kid is on his game, it is a true joy to watch...as a Habs fan I will take the 2 points, as a hockey fan, I feel a little ripped.

My 3 Stars of the week....1st star..Saku, the captain had an awesome week. 2nd star..Huet, after a little blip of inconsistent play last week, Huet had a nice week of puck stopping. 3rd star..Lapierre, the rookie gets a call up from Hamilton and has 3 points in 3 games, works his buns off, may have earned a permanent spot on the big squad.

Joe's Doghouse...hard one this week, Les Boys, played well collectively, but if I must pick my dogs, here it goes...Bou Bou, the Cube, was dinged up a little this week, he missed a little time, all that said he is a defensive liability, I for one would like him to sit in the press box..Striet is the better player. Mike Johnson, I love his hustle, I just want him to chip in a little more offensively. Finally, Rivet, sure he is a long time Hab, sure he wears the 'A' with distinction...but the defensive brainfarts, and dumbass penalties are adding up, he has been a hindrance lately.

Congrats to the Habs in their accomplishment last evening... Not only was Sid rendered ineffective, but a Pittsburgh team that has lately been on fire, was brought back to Earth... Joe, this Montreal club continues to impress me... And, because goaltending is 90% of the game in the playoffs, these Habs could be this year's sleeper - I say sleeper only because they really weren't a preseason favorite in anyone's estimation...

stranger things have happened...like say the hurricanes last year, the lighting pre-lockout..or even better the 1993 habs. my worry is if the habs have to face the devils..i think they match up quite well with any other eastern conference team...but the devils and marty have their number...time will tell, i am happy with the way my habs are playing right now, but i am not at the point where i would pimp them as true cup contenders.

Truthfully, NOBODY matches up well with Marty...

carbo and his staff have done a heck of a job , especially with the specialty teams...there is still some work to be done 5 on 5, and with team discipline... but you can't argue with their record..jacques demers was a pretty good coach..i think its a little early to compare carbo with some of the great habs coaches of the past, but he is sure alot better then the motely crew of coaches that have been manning the habs bench in the last 10 years or so.
