Dumont Madness Over, Prepare To Be-Daze-led

The Nashville Predator's signed J.P. Dumont earlier today, putting an end to the weeks of endless speculation which had JPD coming to the Habs....And the wild and wacky trade rumours that popped up, which were supposed to address the cap hit that a JPD signing would create.

Well I am glad that is over, the Habs have a glut on the wings, the signing of Dumont, was not a priority, and I am glad that Bob Gainey did not feel pressured to sign him, regardless of the emotional response, that some in the Montreal press and overvealous fans felt regarding Dumont. The Habs have no need for another winger, Dumont madness had more to do with the fact that he was a francophone, and less to do with any specific hole in the Habs line up. It made no sense to blow up the Habs line up, then sign Dumont, simply because he was a francophone. I am all for having players play for their home town team, sure if he was a number 1 center, or a top 4 dman, I'd have been all for it...Dumont didn't fit, case closed.

That brings me to Eric Daze, ever since the news broke that Daze's back was feeling good, and he felt healthy enough to restart his NHL career, the same nutty press and overzealous fans that had a chubby for Dumont, are now gaga for Daze. Sorry folks, the same thing I said about Dumont in the previous paragraph applies to Daze as well. I don't want to get political here, I lived in Montreal for 9 years, I am well aware of language and cultural issues that exist in Quebec. But this is hockey, not politics, hockey is not only a business, but a sport, its all about 24 players regardless of language, or culture, pulling together as a cohesive whole. I will say this again, if Dumont or Daze, were centermen, or defensemen, I would have been more than happy if Gainey signed them. The Canadiens and their fans are dieing for a local hero, shit there hasn't been one in Hab town since Patrick Roy left. But, Dumont or Daze are not the answer folks. Use hockey logic folks, leave the emotion for politics.

We agree. We are always skeptical of any Franco-phone to the Habs rumor. Just because someone is a Quebecer doesn't mean they want to play there, or that the Canadiens want them. Much the same that we rarely believe Toronto rumors.

sadly this off season habs fans have become as bad as leaf fans, with their wild speculation...lets end the madness now..anthropov for ribero straight up...then the leaf and habs fans can both shut the hell up.

Joe, we like the hit counter feature. How did you get it, and how do you install it on to your blog. Thanks.

just google hit counter, there are a bunch of different sites that offer them...cut and past the code that they offer into your template...scroll down almost to the bottom where you see the links and what not..and whammo...probably best to preview it before you publish..wouldn't want a hit counter like way up by your header or something.
hope that helps.
cheers

As for Daze, not sure why anyone would be excited for his services. He's 5 years removed from his last quality season. (2001-02 GP 82 G 38 A 32 pts. 70)
Only 31, but how durable would he be?

no worries..i am computer illiterate as well, but stuborn. as for daze, well the only reason i can see for signing him, would be if you were looking for a crap shoot, the whole diamond in the rough thing....habs have no need for another winger, and gainey doesn't seem to be much of a gambler to me..soooo.

ya read all about it yesterday..he is quite the fisherman that guy..sadly too man good habs fans get hooked.

The problem with that logic is that if he gets injured(again) not only are the Habs out 500,000, but also a top 6 forward. Who will/could replace him mid season if he lasts 40 games?

its not a question of money..daze isn't gonna bust the bank, its a question of taking a roster spot from one of the kids, thus pushing back the kid's development.... pleks, perez, and higgins have earn the right to see some quality icetime this year, and well kosti, has to see some ice to...there is no room for daze.
