Week One 3 Stars

Not a bad first 3 games for the Habs. They have come away with 5 out of a possible 6 points on their season opening roadtrip, and I will tip my hat to them.

Thought I might try something new, not sure if it will be a reacurring theme, but I am going to give my Hab 3 stars of the week, then maybe an honourable mention, finish it off wih a Joe's doghouse.

First Star: Saku, considering that a lot of us were not even convinced he was going to start the season, Saku once again proved that he is the toughest little bastard on the planet, and he is playing some of the best hockey of his career to boot.

Second Star: Higgins, this kid is for real, the full package, and probably the next captain of the Habs..Great early start to the season, hasn't missed a beat.

Third Star: Abby, he has earned his starts over Huet so far this year, never a bad thing when you have 2 goalies hungry for ice time.

Honorable mention, Ryder, he is putting the puck in the net, that's what he is paid to do. Komi, he said he wanted to be a force this year, and he is backing up his words so far. Bonk, solid defensively, if only he could put the puck in the net.

Joe's Doghouse, Souray, not fair cuz he kinda dwells there perminately, but he makes me nervous when ever he is on the ice. Sammy/Kovalev, time to get some chemistry boys. Lats, I know on the 4th line, limited ice time, but meh.

1) Will this good start stifle all the trade talk?
2) We didn't think so. LOL

ahhhh no there are some issues for sure, namely souray, the fact that they need a second line center, upgrade on defence....but rumours are your department..i am an opinion guy.

ya a hat tip for sure to mr gainey for ridding the habs of some dead weight...now if only he could rid the habs of souray...oh happy days.

hey as a side note, it was nice to see the isles add mike bossy to the staff. bossy is my all time favorite player...the isles organization, if ever it is going to pull itself together, must look to it's past...there are so many great hockey people from the dynasty years...bring some of them back..create a culture of winning.

1) We totally agree with your assessment of Mike Bossy. Those who weren't privileged to see him play will never know the immense talent that was # 22
2) He had the quickest hands we've ever seen. Had he remained healthy its likely he would have easily scored 700+ goals (He nearly had 600 in 9 1/2 seasons!)
3) We also agree its would make sense to bring back players of his and Trottier's caliber. However with the current ownership regime we feel these moves are more as publicity stunts than an actual reaching out to the past.
4) Here's hoping they finally get it right on the Island!

bossy had the most accurate shot in the world too...ha when i was a kid, my mike bossy titan stick was my trademark...i wore them down to a splinter.

trots, billy smith, nystrom, gilles, potvin, goring....too many good hockey people not to some day lead the isles back to respectablity. not sure if wang has any hockey history sense..or if this is all an ea sports nhl07 game to him. time will tell i guess.

1) From the looks of things Wang would do better to take a few months and play some EA sports hockey before he continues to meddle into real hockey matters
2) We believe Wang's true interest from the out set with the Islanders has been the real-estate surrounding the Coliseum.

i am not up on wang...what is he a real estate developer..whats his story, where does his money come from?? can't be a total idiot, if he has the extra cash to buy an nhl team, as a plaything.

Charlie is obviously a successful business man, but I would consider him a hockey "idiot." The Neil Smith-Garth Snow debacle, keeping Milbury around, and signing DiPietro for the next 50 years are proof that Wang's hockey IQ is in the impaired range.

agreed, i wondering if he is hiring, shit i write a hockey blog, that must make qualified enough to be an assistant gm, or head of hockey operations at the very least.

Hey Pinko, got any cash? Maybe we could take up a fund, entice some investors, and buy the Islanders ourselves. I am sure you, I, and maybe even Faux could run that team better than Charlie. Just something to think about. Its just that we may have to move to Long Island. On second thought, the deal's off.
